BACKGROUND AND HISTORY

Origin of Rumah Hope

Rumah Hope was established in 1994 as a social outreach initiative ELCM to support five disadvantaged children and to serve as a safe refuge for abused, neglected, and underprivileged children aged between 5 and 17 years old. The home operates fully through public donations and community support to sustain its daily needs and services. Four years after its establishment, Rumah Hope relocated from a rented bungalow in Old Klang Road to a newly constructed, purpose-built facility known as Rumah Hope !, situated within the compound of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya. The development of the home was made possible through generous financial and in-kind contributions Khalid Aluminium Industries Sdn Bhd, various non-governmental organizations, members of the public, and corporate partners. Subsequently, Rumah Hope 2 was officially opened on 10 October 2006 on the same premises, allowing both homes to collectively accommodate up to 70 children. The home is officially registered with the Registrar of Societies and the Selangor Welfare Council, and it has also been granted tax-exempt status by the Ministry of Finance.
Rumah Hope is a recognized welfare home in Malaysia that plays a significant role in providing long-term care and protection for vulnerable children in Petaling Jaya. The home focuses on ensuring the overall well-being of its residents by offering a stable living environment, access to education, healthcare, and emotional support. Through structured guidance, counseling, and value-based upbringing, Rumah Hope aims to help children heal from past trauma and develop confidence for their future. As a trusted charitable institution, Rumah Hope continues to work closely with the community to create positive change and give disadvantaged children the opportunity to grow into responsible and independent individuals.
